FILMMAKING

MESSENGER -- Clash of the Titans: 48 Hour Film Challenge

My directorial debut! Random location, random prop, random genres. 2 days. 7 friends.

Although I developed the concept for this Amélie-inspired short film, I can't thank my team enough for bringing their A-game to this project-- even on an unexpectedly rainy shoot day in Shanghai while everyone else frolicked in Paris. TEAM INDIGO/GREEN FOREVER!

ROLE: Director

AWARDS: COTT Best Film 2023, Best Directing, Best Screenwriting, Best Editing, Best Acting. Officially selected for the All American High School Film Festival (AAHSFF) 2023, as well as the Reel Girls Film Festival 2023.

Charity Work -- 4/4/4 Challenge

Inspired by Edgar Wright's directorial style, a microcosm of class warfare sparks to life on a sidewalk.

Planned in 4 days, shot in 4 hours (our actors were terribly late, so... technically two and a half hours), and edited in 4 hours. The time crunch was real. Sorry, Jake!

ROLE: Screenwriter

AWARD: came out alive 👍

Charlie's Inferno -- IB Film (Music Video)

Charlie (Byron Stewart) goes on a journey to hell, and back, and back to hell again -- with animation by Felony Chen.

We stole a trolley for this. And snuck into an abandoned hotel. No regrets, would commit trespassing again.

ROLE: Cinematographer

AWARD: First Place under Shanghai Student Film Fest (S2F2) Comedy Genre Award

METRO -- Individual IB "Auteur" Film

It's easy to get lost on the Shanghai subway -- really, really easy. Especially when there's hubris.

Based on a true story when I got lost in the subway and all of my electronic devices died. Edited in a day (whoops)! Style inspired by Jordan Peele for IB's Auteur project.

ROLE: Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Screenwriter

AWARD: didn't get apprehended for filming in the metro

The Truman Show and Nope are both about YOU -- IB Film Comparative Study Video Essay

"The point these films make is that while the individual characters have changed, the audience for spectacle and tragedy never will."

My first video essay, and hopefully not my last! LOVED getting to ramble about two of my favorite movies for a grade for once.

ROLE: Researcher, Writer, Editor, Voiceover

AWARD: perfect full mark from IB!!!
